RAM-PRO: cleaning chiller tubes at datacenter

Watch the video

About this video

A large data center in the Netherlands relies on several water-cooled chillers to meet its cooling requirements. These systems are connected to a cooling tower that rejects the generated heat. Over time, the condenser tubes in the chillers become fouled with organic deposits and a light layer of calcium carbonate. To prevent this fouling from reducing system efficiency – and to mitigate the risks of corrosion and unplanned downtime – the operators perform a mechanical cleaning of the tubes once a year to keep them in optimal condition.

For this maintenance, the operators use Goodway® rotary tube cleaners. In this video, the RAM-PRO tube cleaner is paired with a flexible shaft and dual-diameter spin grit brushes (ESGB) to clean the condenser tubes. The ESGB brushes were specifically selected because the tubes have an enhanced, corrugated surface. These brushes clean both the tube surface and the grooves themselves, delivering a deeper and more thorough result. Watch the video to see exactly how the cleaning process is carried out.
