The Goodway® BFP big shot is a powerful system designed for cleaning large numbers of straight, smooth heat exchanger and condenser tubes. The system utilizes kinetic-hydrostatic technology, allowing the use of Goodway®’s strongest projectiles.

BFP big shot system

The Goodway® BFP big shot system is designed for cleaning large numbers of straight, smooth heat exchanger and condenser tubes, such as those found in surface condensors of power generation plants or shell-and-tube heat exchangers in petrochemical sites. The system utilizes kinetic-hydrostatic technology to shoot special projectiles through the tubes within seconds. These projectiles effectively remove deposits from the tube walls by scraping and pushing them out, immediately improving heat transfer and overall efficiency – without risking tube damage.

The BFP system is more complex than the QS-300 quick shot. Its key advantage is the ability to propel Goodway®’s strongest projectiles, the carbon steel tube scrubbers, making it highly effective for removing hard deposits in tubes, including tough calcium carbonate scaling.

When to use

The BFP big shot is engineered to work with all Goodway® projectiles and effectively remove light, medium and hard deposits from heat exchanger and condenser tubes. When used with Goodway® projectiles, the system is particularly effective against fouling such as algae, sludge, mud, biological growth (biofilm), and (hard) scaling.

  • Use with all of Goodway® projectiles
  • Tube inner diameters between 10,5 – 31,75 millimeters
  • Tube lengths up to 15 – 20 meters
  • For straight, smooth tubes only
  • Cleaning large amounts of condenser tubes of surface condensers, heat pumps, and more
  • Remove algae, sludge, mud, biological fouling (biofilm), and hard scaling from heat exchanger tubes

Note: The BFP big shot system is supplied with one or two output hose reels but does not include the BSL-50 tube cleaning guns, which must be purchased separately.

Practical information

The BFP big shot system uses kinetic-hydrostatic technology, relying entirely on water power – approximately 132 liters per minute at 28 bar. This high flow rate propels projectiles almost instantly through the tubes, while the turbulent flow carries away loosened deposits, leaving tube surfaces clean. When shot with the BFP, projectiles lose their energy as they exit the tubes, which enhances operator safety. The system’s powerful water flow allows the use of all Goodway® projectiles, including the super scrubbers, making it highly effective for removing hard deposits.

The kinetic-hydrostatic technology also provides several additional advantages. In many cases, this method is safer, faster, and more efficient than traditional cleaning techniques, such as high-pressure lancing. Below is a brief summary of the main benefits:

  • Cleaning speed
The time savings achieved when cleaning with projectiles are significant. Projectiles are propelled through the tubes at high speed, projectiles travel through the entire tube within 5 seconds, regardless of the length.
  • Water consumption
Although the BFP system operates at 132 liters per minute, each tube is typically cleaned in less than 10 seconds, resulting in a water usage of approximately 20-25 liters per tube. This represents a significant reduction compared to traditional cleaning methods.
  • Safety
The BFP system utilizes low-pressure technology, making the cleaning process safer for operators compared to traditional high-pressure cleaning methods. Additionally, the tubes remain intact and undamaged, as they are not exposed to high pressure waterjets.
  • Lower operating costs
The BFP big shot is an affordable and cost-efficient tube cleaning system, representing a relatively low one-time investment. After the initial purchase, only projectiles are required, which can be ordered based on project or heat exchanger type. Since most projectiles are reusable, operational costs are kept to a minimum.

1000-liter IBC tank

The BFP big shot system is supplied with a 1000-liter IBC tank that functions as a buffer for the system. The IBC ensures smoother and safer operation, while also filtering all incoming water to protect the pump from fouling and cavitation.

In practice, it can be challenging to supply 132 liters per minute at 28 bar directly. The IBC tank includes an integrated submersible pump that delivers water at the correct pressure and volume to the BFP system. Only a small supply hose is needed to continuously fill the tank, and an integrated float switch automatically stops the water supply when the tank reaches its maximum capacity of 1000 liters.

At our site we had problems with a titanium heat exchanger that was fully blocked with soft deposits. After having had contact with the experts of Goodway Benelux we came to the conclusion that the BFP system was the best solution to open and clean the tubes. The softer, plastic projectiles were selected to not cause any damages to the titanium material. After increasing the fuse size during initial startup we were able to perform the majority of the cleaning with the big shot, fast and easily. For the other tubes, we used a rotary tube cleaning system for a manual, precise cleaning. Resulted in good cooling. We will see for how long. The media particle content is quite high.

We were in need of a system for a last minute (urgent) projectile tube cleaning of our condenser. We rented the BFP system from Goodway Benelux and were able to pick it up immediately. After a short start-up, we were able to perform an effective and quick cleaning.
